Title: Building a Free Local SEO SERP Checker: A Personal Tool Powered by the Google Places API
Introduction
After relying on a basic tool to examine local search results for specific keywords and cities, I decided to create something more capable and user-friendly. The result is a self-built local SEO SERP checker built on the Google Places API. I’m excited to share it with you and would value any feedback, whether positive or constructive.

What’s included (in the order I implemented it)
– Keyword and Location Search
– Country and Language Selection
– Search History
– Dark Mode
– Ad Testing Toggle
– Personalized Search Results are Off
Privacy and data handling
Privacy is a priority for me. All generated links and history data are stored exclusively in your browser’s local storage. No data is sent to or stored on any external server. This approach keeps your local search activity private and under your control.
Why I built this tool
My goal was to enhance the effectiveness of local search analysis by providing a more capable, yet user-friendly, tool. I have plans to expand functionality in the future, including adding the ability to view mobile search results. If you find it useful, I’d love to hear your thoughts and suggestions.
Notes on usage and limitations
Google’s search results can be sensitive to frequency. In some cases, frequent searches may trigger a temporary 403 error due to rate limiting. A simple workaround is to perform searches in an incognito window, which often resets the session.
Future improvements
Beyond mobile search results, I’m exploring additional features that can further streamline local SEO analysis and help you derive actionable insights.
Feedback welcome
If you try the tool, please share your experiences, ideas, and any issues you encounter. Your input will help shape future updates and improvements.
